Funding for one more project to renew the scientific infrastructure of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI) presented to the Research Council of Lithuania. The sum of 92,679.50 euros was allocated to the project “Establishment of the Center for Contemporary Analogue Photography” prepared by the Faculty of Arts and Education.

‘We are glad that, competing only with universities, for the first time we successfully participated in the competition for science infrastructure renovation projects and received funding for even two science infrastructure projects. Kauno kolegija HEI is becoming an increasingly active and successful participant in the contests of projects announced by the Research Council of Lithuania,’ notes Lina Kuraitienė, Head of the Project Management Unit.

‘This winning project is very important for the Faculty of Arts and Education in order to develop applied scientific research and experimental development activities, as the project will create a new Contemporary Analogue Photography Centre, which will include artistic and scientific research activities related to analog photography. Analogue photography retains special significance in the age of global digitisation, creates prerequisites for unique aesthetics, the authenticity of the creative, artistic and scientific process,’ notes Albertas Juodeika, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education.

During the project, the newly purchased and updated photographic equipment will provide an opportunity to carry out detailed research and experiments in the field of analogue photography and will ensure the uninterrupted execution of the entire process in one place, starting from photography and ending with exposure. Researchers will be able to delve into the relationship between analogue and digital photography, examine how the grain of photography transforms into a pixel against the background of modern trends and create hybrid photographs, analyse photographic composition styles, the growing playfulness, ritualism and meanings and symbols related to the production methodology, explore aspects of surprise and imperfection, solve the challenges of analogue photography production and find creative solutions.

With the acquisition of new equipment, the Contemporary Analogue Photography Centre will become a modern, efficient and creative space of national significance, conducting artistic and scientific research of the highest quality. This will allow not only to expand the boundaries of analogue photography, but also to attract more students, researchers and artists, as well as to promote international cooperation and innovation.

It is expected that in the long term the centre will become a significant centre of attraction for the culture and science of Lithuania, promoting creativity, innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation. It aims to be a place where tradition and modernity meet, allowing artists, researchers and the public to delve into the technologies, tools, aesthetics and methodologies of analogue photography. The Contemporary Analogue Photography Centre will contribute to the preservation of culture and the creation of new forms of cultural expression, will promote scientific research and education, as well as international cooperation, helping Lithuania to maintain and strengthen its place on the world map of art and science.
