From October 28 to November 6, the Department of Rehabilitation at Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution hosted Prof. Dr Manuel Gonzalez Sanchez from the University of Malaga, Spain – a partner institution within the European University Alliance UNINOVIS. The aim of the visit was to strengthen international cooperation, share best practices in health sciences education, and promote the development of academic and research exchange.
During his stay, the professor delivered lectures and practical sessions for students of different study years, sharing his expertise in kinesiology taping, anatomical palpation, clinical reasoning, and manual techniques in rehabilitation. Third-year physiotherapy students learned about the indications of kinesiology taping, factors influencing its effectiveness, and main application techniques. They actively participated in practical workshops, tried different taping methods, and appreciated the opportunity to learn directly from a visiting international expert.
Second-year students enhanced their anatomical palpation skills, learning to identify upper limb structures and relate them to movement function. These sessions helped strengthen their ability to apply anatomical and functional knowledge in clinical practice.
Students also attended a lecture ‘Clinical Reasoning and Treatment Planning Based on Patient Assessment’, which focused on the use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), goal setting, and evidence-based decision-making in physiotherapy practice.
Students from the Department of Oral Health Care took part in a practical seminar on temporomandibular joint (TMJ) mobilisation, where the professor introduced the anatomy, biomechanics, and manual techniques of the TMJ, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between physiotherapists and oral health specialists.
During the visit, Prof. Dr Manuel Gonzalez Sanchez also met with lecturers and researchers to discuss joint research directions, project activities, and the organisation of the 2026 conference ‘Applied Research Works of Young Researchers in Rehabilitation’. Discussions also covered the progress of the Erasmus+ EqualEDU project and the strengthening of the UNINOVIS partnership.
