On 1 October 2nd International Photography and Media Art Festival (IPMA) was opened. Congratulating the large number of festival spectators, the Head of the Arts Academy of the Faculty of Arts and Education Lukas Alsys, thanked his closest partners, colleagues, without whom the idea would not have become a reality, and the artists whose artworks were displayed in the M. Žilinskas Art Gallery.

‘IPMA, the only event of its kind in the European region, brought together photography and media artists from all over the world for the second time in Lithuania. It is like a huge book that reveals the stories created by Lithuanian and foreign artists, thus contributing to the nurturing of the cultural life of Kaunas, Lithuania and Europe,’ said Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution Director Dr Andrius Brusokas.

Addressing the gathered participants, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education Albertas Juodeika said: ‘Dear colleagues, distinguished guests, friends of this festival, it is good to see you all here. It is extremely important for us that you believe in what we believe: in the success, growth and necessity of the International Festival of Photography and Media Art for Lithuania and the world.’

Festival Founder, Director, Exhibition Curator, and Coordinator of the Photography study programme of the Academy of Arts Svetlana Batura thanked everyone who was there, and provided inspiration and strength to act, for the second time in the implementation of this ambitious project.

‘This year’s festival is several times bigger than in the first year: both the abundance of artists and the uniqueness of the spaces, for which many thanks to the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art,’ shared the founder of the festival.
