Until 3 March, the Janina Monkutė-Marks Museum-Gallery is exhibiting the second international fibre art exhibition “Creativity”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Janina Monkutė-Marks. The exhibition presents two-dimensional and sculptural works created using various techniques and unexpected materials by as many as 39 artists from 14 countries around the world. Among them is the graphic artist Sigutė Bronickienė, a lecturer at the Design study programme of the Academy of Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Education of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI).
One of the curators of the exhibition, Kakuko Ishii, notes that the beautiful friendship connecting her with the J. Monkutė-Marks Museum has lasted for more than 10 years. The curator is very pleased that the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of J. Monkutė-Marks has managed to select and present many works by Japanese artists in Lithuania. ‘Thanks to the museum, Japanese art is being shown more widely in Lithuania,’ says K. Ishii happily.
S. Bronickienė presents the work “Divonėlis” at the exhibition. ‘Since the exhibition is dedicated to the 100th birthday of J. Monkutė-Marks, a textile artist, painter and graphic artist, I wanted to create a work that would be related to textiles and tapestries,’ the artist says about the linocut she created, printed on handmade paper, achieving a suggestive materiality and subtle harmony of colours.
