The relevance and importance of the topic of environmental protection do not raise any questions, but it is a challenge to interest the masses in this scientific topic. It can be overcome with creativity. Art projects are one of the ways to encourage the public to look more closely at this topic.
“Living Earth Minds” (Lithuanian: Gyvos žemės mintys) is the only international photography competition on the topic of environmental protection in Lithuania, which began to be organised almost three decades ago in Mažeikiai, during the preparation of the first international photographers’ seminar.
This year, more than 100 photographers of various age groups from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Serbia participated in the competition. The commission selected more than 100 of the several hundred works submitted to the competition for the exhibition “Living Earth Minds 2023”, exhibited in the Mažeikiai Museum.
At the opening event of the exhibition, the winners of the international competition were awarded, including Vytenis Čėsna, a second-year student of the Photography study programme of the Faculty of Arts and Education of the Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution, who was awarded the prize of the Mažeikiai District Municipality.
The exhibition is open until 4 November at the Mažeikiai Museum (V. Burbos St. 9, Mažeikiai).
