Dr Tomas Makaveckas

On 19 September 2024 by the Council resolution no. (2.5 E)-54-30 the Faculty of Technologies was renamed to the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technologies. Also, after abolishing the Department of Industrial Engineering and Robotics, the Engineering Study Centre was established in the faculty.

Dean of the faculty Dr Tomas Makaveckas notes that the previous name did not reflect the two extremely important groups of study areas conducted at the faculty – informatics and engineering, so the new name will more accurately describe the spectrum of studies implemented at the faculty.

‘Rapidly developing technologies and innovations stimulate a greater demand for engineering specialists, so in recent years we have observed an increase in the popularity of engineering sciences. Artificial intelligence, robotics and renewable energy require highly qualified engineers, so engineering graduates are in high demand on the labour market, and their salaries are often competitive,’ shares Dr T. Makaveckas.

He points out that structural changes will allow to organise faculty’s activities better, improve the quality of studies and meet the needs of the modern labour market. The faculty, according to Dr T. Makaveckas will become more focused on engineering and informatics studies, will strengthen its positions in these areas and provide students with better learning and professional development opportunities.

‘The new name – Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technologies – will more accurately reflect the faculty’s mission and directions of activity, clearly showing that not only technological study areas are studied here, but also studies in a wider field – informatics and engineering, which form the essential basis of the faculty. The change of the name of the faculty marks a new stage in the history of the faculty and shows our desire to further improve, strengthen our reputation and provide students with the best possible education,’ adds the Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technologies.
