Since October 3rd, lecturers Ülle Tamming and Monika Drews from Tallinn Health Care College have been visiting and sharing their knowledge at the Faculty of Medicine of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI).

The content of Monika Drews’ lecture programme at the Faculty of Medicine is based on the discussion of Lyme disease (LL) – borreliosis and its causative agent – the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The lecturer will also review the newly described types of the disease, their transmission and statistics, and discuss the historical context.

During the lectures, M. Drews will review the taxonomy, structure and morphology (metabolism, physiology and molecular pathology) and genetic characteristics, genospecies of the B. burgdorferi sensu lato complex.

In the lectures, lecturer Ülle Tamming will review the introduction to the subject “Measuring and interpreting vital signs of the body” and will present insights into viral diseases of the upper respiratory tract and their treatment.

Erasmus+ programme allows communities of educational institutions to exchange teaching, research and mobility experiences. The purpose of the lectures is to share knowledge in the fields of pharmacotherapy and microbiology science, to improve teaching skills in English and to develop cooperation between both institutions in the field of education.

In the lectures taught, students of the Faculty of Medicine will gain knowledge in the fields of microbiology and pharmacotherapy, deepen their professional competences and improve their English language skills.
