10–13 October, a guest team from Belgium visited the Department of Cosmetology of the Faculty of Medicine of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI): habilitated professor, doctor of sciences, head of the clinic and plastic surgeon Dr Bernard Cambier and Cerepharma SA Technology Managers and Trainers Anne-Sophie De Wulf and Virginie Torch.
Close cooperation with foreign specialists, institutions and organisations is extremely important for Kauno kolegija HEI for the improvement of students and specialists and the improvement of the quality of studies.
This is not the first visit, but a continuation of a friendship established a year ago. The professor continued the series of lectures on aesthetic medicine and cosmetology, which began in May of this year, covering anatomical and physiological features of the skin, changes and biochemistry of the skin. During the lectures, classical cosmetology and links with plastic surgery were combined and the latest technologies used in aesthetic medicine were presented.
The Department of Cosmetology held not only a series of lectures, but also seminars, where knowledge and experience were shared not only by Prof Dr Bernard Cambier, but also his team Anne-Sophie De Wulf and Virginie Torch, who have extensive experience in the field of cosmetology, so the series of lectures was complemented by a practical seminar on the use of acid products to solve skin problems, which aroused great interest from the students and received a lot of questions. During this intensive cycle, not only students and lecturers, but also graduates participated.
Cooperation with foreign partners, who have already become good friends, took place in various forms. This is not only academic activity, but also cooperation in joint research activities.
During the strengthening of international relations, new topics for joint scientific publications were discussed with Prof Dr Bernard Cambier and the team. During the meeting, associate professor of the department, Dr Diana Barragan Ferrer, discussed the joint publication and further cooperation in preparing articles and disseminating research in foreign peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Bernard Cambier is not only an excellent specialist and representative of the academic world, but also a researcher. During the planning of joint research on the effect of cosmetic products on skin indicators and the penetration of cosmetic products through the epidermis, the diagnostic equipment of the Department of Cosmetology was presented. Jolanta Juozapavičienė, the lecturer of the department responsible for it, presented the possibilities of ultrasound skin examination in a new study. Prof Bernard Cambier advised on the intricacies of this study and the acquisition of new equipment to expand the possibilities of the studies and increase their validity.
Currently, the Department of Cosmetology is planning to purchase a new generation of ultrasound equipment for skin diagnostics, about which Dr Bernard Cambier provided a detailed consultation. Possibilities of consulting research were discussed, ideas and perspectives were shared.
The head of the department, Žaneta Mickienė, was happy with such cooperation. This visit is not a final stage of cooperation, but only an opportunity to develop further plans and perspectives.
When leaving, the guests shared their thoughts: “We believe that during the training, we gave the students a deeper knowledge base. We are happy that we can share the knowledge accumulated over many years with curious, information-seeking, perspective people.”
“During the training, the large gathered group was extremely pleasing, the students were interested in the taught material, asked many questions and tried to understand. We started the training by sharing theoretical knowledge, and ended it with a complex, practical part, thus practically showing the possibilities of using the acquired knowledge. We are grateful for the cooperation, teaching at Kauno kolegija HEI is a pleasure. We look forward to the next times when we can share our knowledge again,” says plastic surgeon and head of the clinic Dr Bernard Cambier.
At the same time, K. Baltušis, director of “Astrameda”, a social partner, also participated in the event. This is an excellent example of symbiosis between business and higher education.
“Course in Cosmetic Dermatology and Advanced Aesthetics” was organised by the Department of Cosmetology of the Faculty of Medicine of Kauno kolegija HEI and “Astrameda”. We thank the partners and Dr Bernard Cambier and the team for their knowledge, cooperation and all kinds of help.
