The admission results show that Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI) is among the leading higher education institutions this year and received the most first-year students in Kaunas.

Kauno kolegija HEI is in the top three Lithuanian higher education institutions in terms of the number of students admitted to study

According to the data of the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions for Centralised Admissions (LAMA BPO), 20,587 freshmen will start the new academic year this year. This is 1,425 freshmen more than last year. Entrants at universities concluded 11,185 study contracts, and at higher education institutions – 9,402.

1,540 freshmen will start their studies at Kauno kolegija HEI this year. This is the largest number of future students in Kaunas among all higher education institutions. It is also noticeable that Kauno kolegija HEI continues to be the leader not only in Kaunas but also in Lithuania in terms of the number of first-year students. This year, like last year, this higher education institution is the third in terms of the number of students admitted to study – it is surpassed only by Vilnius University and Vilnius Higher Education Institution.

Also this year, 9 per cent more first-year students will start their studies at state-funded places in Kauno kolegija HEI than last year.

This year three Kauno kolegija HEI study programmes made it into the top 10 most popular study programmes at higher education institutions according to the first request. The most popular study programmes according to the number of applicants this year were Pre-School and Pre-Primary Education, Cosmetology, and Oral Hygiene.

Interest in short studies is growing

This year Kauno kolegija HEI offered applicants two short-cycle study programmes – Graphical User Interface Development and Systems Administration study programmes, which were chosen by the majority of applicants.

Kauno kolegija HEI closely cooperates with employers, therefore these short-cycle study programmes were started in response to their expressed need. Such cooperation makes it possible to ensure that graduates who have completed their studies at the Kauno kolegija HEI acquire in-demand and promising specialities that allow them to quickly integrate into the labour market.

“We started these studies because we respond to the needs of employers, and we also take into account the need of a certain group of people to study because these studies can also be attractive to those who had difficulty with general education subjects at school. They can acquire a profession and enter the labour market faster. In addition, it can be an easier way to get a higher education after these studies – to continue studies at the professional bachelor’s level”, Jolanta Bareikienė, Kauno kolegija HEI’s Vice Director for studies, speaks about the need for short-cycle study programmes.

Short-cycle studies are a path to higher education that allows one to choose shorter studies and acquire a speciality in demand on the labour market within 1,5–2 years.
