At the end of each semester, Kaunas University of Applied Sciences students have the opportunity to evaluate the quality of each study subject / module and its teaching. In this survey, they must also assess their attendance in a specific study subject / module. The survey is carried out in the Study management system.

Students of all faculties expressed their opinions on the quality of study subjects studied in the autumn semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. They evaluate the quality of the content of the study subject / module and the quality of teaching very positively – their overall evaluation almost reaches 88% (out of 100%). According to Inga Stravinskienė, Head of the Management and Quality Unit of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences, such a number is gratifying, considering that most of the studies in the autumn semester were carried out remotely. She states that looking at the detailed results of the surveys, when open feedback is provided, many lecturers receive very nice and warm praises. Their methodological readiness, active involvement of students in classes are rated high. Students also provided suggestions for improving the quality of studies in individual subjects / modules.

I. Stravinskienė notes that the high indicators of study quality assessment are also influenced by the very active involvement of lecturers in events aimed at improving competencies. Kaunas University of Applied Sciences pays special attention to this area. During 2020, more than 500 university employees participated in trainings organized by the Human Resources Office, covering 17 different topics in the fields of didactic, digital, academic ethics, creativity education, and other general competencies. These trainings are conducted by both internal university experts and guest lecturers. University‘s Moodle platform also contains educational material relevant to the development of competencies, which includes more than 40 videos. Seminars-discussions are also organized, during which good practices are shared with colleagues, and distance learning tools are reviewed. I. Stravinskienė emphasizes that competency development events are organized based on the results of surveys not only of students but also of the university‘s staff.

According to I. Stravinskienė, it is necessary to further develop the culture of feedback, encouraging students to participate more actively in the organized surveys. “Student involvement is especially important because the results of feedback are used to improve the content of the study subject / module and the quality of its teaching, to determine the need to improve teachers’ competencies, etc.,” emphasizes I. Stravinskienė. The obtained results are discussed in the faculties, providing measures for the improvement of the quality of studies.
