This year, first-year students who have enrolled in Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution and signed a study agreement will have their Lithuanian Student Identity Card (LSIC) issued free of charge.

‘At Kauno kolegija the student is the centre of the community – this is the principle that guides all decisions related to the study environment, opportunities and support,’ notes Dr Inga Stravinskienė, Vice Director for Research and Development.

Aurimas Galkontas, Head of Student Affairs and Career Unit, points out that Kauno kolegija pays great attention not only to the study process, but also to the comprehensive well-being of students and strengthening student support. One of the particular steps in this direction is the decision to finance the purchase of LSIC for first-year students.

‘We understand that the beginning of studies is not only a time of new opportunities but also a period when students face various challenges, including financial ones. Therefore, it is important to us that every student who joins has equal opportunities to smoothly begin their studies and integrate into the academic community,’ emphasises A. Galkontas.

According to him, the LSIC is not just a document – it is the key to the rights proving student status, cultural and sports services, public transport benefits, and many other discounts that help young people save money and actively participate in public life every day.

‘By allocating funding for the acquisition of LSIC, we send a clear message – we care about our students from their first day at Kauno kolegija. This is just part of our extensive support system in which students can expect various types of assistance: from financial scholarships, psychological well-being services to personal consultations and career planning. We are convinced that only a socially responsible, open and caring higher education institution can create an environment in which every student feels valued, empowered to grow and develop,’ says A. Galkontas.

He adds that this decision is not just an administrative measure – it is a value choice of the Kauno kolegija reflecting a long-term commitment to creating a study culture in which every student has the opportunity to achieve their goals.

‘This decision is not only a real help for first-year students, but also a clear signal that at Kauno kolegija the student is truly the most important thing. This is a great example of how a higher education institution can contribute to the well-being of students, while also promoting involvement in cultural and social activities,’ shares Ieva Miniauskaitė, President of the Kauno kolegija Students’ Representative Council.
