In the “Big See” contest held during the International Design Week of Ljubljana (Slovenia), the lecturer of the Fashion Design study programme of the Faculty of Arts and Education of the Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI), designer Dr Kęstutis Lekeckas was awarded the first place in the “Step Forward” category for his collection of men’s coats made of alpaca wool “Alpaka men”.
The designer received an invitation to participate in the competition from the organisers of the Ljubljana Design Week, who saw more than 50,000 visitors to the collection inspired by the image of an ancient northern hunter on the “Not Just a Label” platform, which presents works by designers from all over the world.
“Men’s coats made of alpaca wool are a current innovation, a fashion intrigue, which is very much talked about behind the scenes of all the most famous fashion houses,” says Dr K. Lekeckas.
Coats created by the designer can be worn as classic products, and can also be diversified with different accessories: belts, hats, scarves or original bondage elements. “Wearing coats in not one but several ways maximises the product’s life cycle. In this way, additional value is created, contributing to the nurturing and sustainable development of slow fashion,” emphasises the designer.
This year, in addition to winning the Ljubljana Design Week, Dr K. Lekeckas, it is also special because “The Baltics Prestige Awards 2022/23” awarded the status of “Designer Clothing Retailer of the Year” to the men’s fashion house “leKeckas” and to the designer himself, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania recognized Dr K. Lekeckas as an artist.
