One of the most popular news portals in Lithuania, Delfi, has been presenting the Titans Awards to distinguished personalities since 2013. However, the tradition of not only meaningful awards continues. An important highlight of the awards is the statuettes created by Sigita Grabliauskaitė, Coordinator of the Object Art Study Programme, and Head of the Glass Studio, which are handed over to laureates who have made exceptional achievements and performed selfless, socially important work.

The artist, who works with a technique that requires extreme care and patience, said that every year she approaches this task as a creative challenge – how to simultaneously create a unique piece and keep it titanically solid.

‘I try to maintain the same proportions – the same size, thickness, height and width, all that volume, but this year I worked a little differently than during quarantine, I picked up the glass a little at a time, combined shades in pairs from darker grey to the lightest. This way I managed to get an original effect when Titan not only shines on its own with multi-layered shades but also changes depending on the lighting. But most importantly, the impression remains that Titan, as in Greek mythology – is strong, courageous, and solid,’ she said.

S. Grabliauskaitė revealed that casting the Titans from cold glass, then slowly raising the temperature with annealing, takes about four days – the process can be compared to walking on a thin rope. It is also important to ensure that the statuettes do not deviate at all, and do not spill out in an unnecessary direction – then you would have to work on them additionally by grinding them or the like.

‘I am still one of those who is not afraid of a slow process. And I want to advise young people: there is no need to rush or get distracted, after learning to be an artist, immediately jump into doing something else. Only in this way, by working patiently a little, professionalism comes,’ she smiled and assured that no one else will have such an artistic Titans statuette, as these exceptional, award-winning people will deserve.
