Surgery nursing | 3 | Autumn | Piščalkienė Viktorija | Students will identify the causes and clinical signs of surgical diseases, assess the risk factors associated with surgical interventions, and recognize the vital needs of surgical patients. They will be equipped to prepare patients for surgery from both clinical and psychological perspectives. Additionally, they will be able to identify and appropriately respond to early and late local or general postoperative complications, perform wound care, provide patient education during the preoperative and postoperative phases, and share their professional knowledge. |
Human safety | 3 | Spring | Daiva Šakienė | Students will become familiar with the organizational and legal framework of human safety, the laws of the Republic of Lithuania on occupational safety and health, as well as risk factors affecting the health of nursing professionals in the workplace and the external environment. They will study the effects of ionizing radiation, chemical, and biological pollution on humans and the environment, safety measures, civil safety signals, and the corresponding actions. Upon achieving the course outcomes, students will be able to analyze the Lithuanian Law on Occupational Safety and Health and other regulatory acts. They will identify, classify, and assess the main hazards in the workplace and external environment. They will understand the principles of occupational and civil safety, be able to apply them in practice, and know how to prevent or reduce risks. |

Geriatric Nursing | 3 | Spring | Gerda Bukauskaitė – Žiūkienė | Students will analyze anatomical, physiological and psychological characteristics of the old age people, the impact of cultural, social, economic, political and environmental factors on the old age person’s health, will identify and assess the old age people‘s needs, choose the ways for the old age person care goal achievement and criteria for the outcome evaluation, will nurse the elderly and old age people, will be able to communicate with old age patients, their family members, and other health care professionals, to disseminate professional experience. |
Palliative and Oncological Nursing | 3 | Spring | Gerda Bukauskaitė – Žiūkienė | Students will know the organization order of palliative care, the principles of teamwork and team members’ activities in a palliative care team. They will understand the legal and ethical aspects of palliative care, assess and identify physiological, psychological, and spiritual needs and problems of the patient, will raise the objectives of nursing care and choose methods and tools for the implementation of care of a patient in the last stage of life, will be able to collaborate with the patient’s relatives, integrate them into the process of care. |
Therapeutic Nursing (neurological nursing) | 3 | Autumn | Gerda Bukauskaitė – Žiūkienė | Students will understand the etiopathogenesis and pathogenesis of neurological diseases, with a focus on key topics such as the nervous system overview, neurological patient assessment within nursing competence (consciousness, speech, cognitive functions, coordination, balance), and the use of scales, tests, and investigative tools. Specific conditions like epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease (challenges and interventions), neuropathic pain, polyneuropathies, strokes (analysis and nursing care), and headaches will be covered in detail. Students will apply the nursing care process, evaluate care outcomes, and use nursing theories in practice. Ethical communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams will be emphasized, as well as sharing professional experience. |
Professional Internship of Emergency Care and Intensive Nursing | 8 | Autumn | Vilma Rastenienė | Students will carry out nursing actions and procedures in real practical situations: will analyse and systemize data of scientific literature, provide practical quidelines for nurse‘s work, follow the nursing care regulating documents in the nursing practice, will analyse and systemize changes of vital needs in acute conditions, perform first aid and intensive care actions in all level human health care institutions, provide support in acute conditions, will communicate with patients, their family members, other health care personnel, work in a team of health care specialists. |
Obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing | 3 | Autumn | Gerimantas Čerkauskas | While studying gynaecology, students will analyze and evaluate the factors that cause gynaecological diseases in women of various ages. Will be able to recognize the symptoms of gynaecological diseases. It enables students to care for gynaecological patients by individualizing the nursing process and evaluating its effectiveness. Will be able to identify possible complications of gynaecological diseases. Will be able to fill out medical documentation properly. |
