The King Mindaugas Vocational Training Centre in Kaunas recently hosted the fourth International First Aid Competition for Higher Education and Vocational Schools. Students from the Emergency Medical Aid study programme at the Faculty of Medicine, Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution, achieved excellent results, securing third place overall.

This year’s competition brought together 38 teams from 23 educational institutions, including guests from Ternopil National Medical University (Ukraine) and Daugavpils Medical College (Latvia). Participants faced five challenging practical scenarios based on real-life first aid situations – from assisting a choking child and controlling severe bleeding to recognising hypoglycaemia and working effectively in the dark. The tasks demanded not only knowledge and precision but also quick thinking, composure, and strong teamwork skills.

The Kauno kolegija team comprised students Indrė Balionytė, Akvilė Grigaliūnaitė, and Mantas Kaltenis, who demonstrated exceptional preparation, the ability to perform under pressure, and flawless coordination.

This competition once again highlighted that first aid knowledge is a vital life-saving skill, and the ability to act with courage and decisiveness is the mark of true professionalism.

The event was organised by the Paramedics Association of Lithuania, the First Aid Training Centre ‘IRTA’, and the King Mindaugas Vocational Training Centre.
