Employees of<\/span> Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution (HEI) gathered at Owl Hill \u2013 this is where the<\/span> \u201c<\/span>Wellbeing<\/span> Fest<\/span>\u201d <\/span>organised for the first time took place.<\/span> The creator of the idea and the organiser of the event, Kauno kolegija Welfare Manager Smilt\u0117 Jurait\u0117, notes that the <\/span>idea<\/span> of \u200b\u200borganising such an event arose in order to give employees the opportunity to communicate in an informal environment and thus get to know each other better, to meet colleagues from <\/span>other<\/span> faculties and academic departments.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018W<\/span>e wanted to bring all this into the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating community <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> so that the event includes education on personal health, active physical activity classes, and creative and recreational activities \u2013 everything that helps to relax, establish informal relationships with colleagues, and finally \u2013 increases employee engagement and loyalty to the organisation,<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>shares S. Jurait\u0117.<\/span><\/p>\n

As organisations increasingly take care of the <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> of their employees, Kauno kolegija HEI also took a step towards these changes a year ago by creating the position of Welfare Manager.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018E<\/span>xactly a year ago, we started thinking more about employee <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> and its components. We fully understand that taking care of <\/span>employees’<\/span> physical, mental and emotional health is a cornerstone for success, and this is especially important when the organisation is in a phase of significant changes,<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>says S. Jurait\u0117.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vice Director for Organisational Development Dr Inga Stravinskien\u0117 notes that a focused, proactive <\/span>and positive<\/span> community will <\/span>always<\/span> achieve more sustainable performance results.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018C<\/span>aring for the <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> of the community<\/span> is not only about fair wages, social guarantees that create a secure tomorrow. <\/span>This<\/span> is also about <\/span>taking care of<\/span> the <\/span>community’s<\/span> emotional and physical <\/span>wellbeing<\/span>. The position of Welfare Manager at Kauno kolegija HEI allows more quality attention and work to be devoted to these areas, mobilising the community and directing it towards the achievement of the common goals of the institution,<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>shares Dr I. Stravinskien\u0117.<\/span><\/p>\n

S. Jurait\u0117 adds that satisfied and happy employees can achieve better results:<\/span> \u2018<\/span>We work to create an environment where everyone feels respected, valued and supported because <\/span>that’s<\/span> when we can boldly move forward and properly use the professional potential of our employees<\/span>.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

New initiatives to foster employee <\/span>wellbeing<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Over the past academic year, several new initiatives have <\/span>been implemented<\/span> for employees, from monthly meetings with experts sharing knowledge about emotional and physical health, afternoons for new employees, to a summer camp for <\/span>employees’<\/span> children, and the opening prayer, silence and meditation room.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018W<\/span>e started organising Community Hours, during which employees <\/span>not only<\/span> listen to lectures on physical and mental health care<\/span> but also<\/span> informally communicate over a cup of tea during meetings.<\/span> In order to take into account the family obligations of employees, we organised a Christmas party and a summer day camp for <\/span>employees’<\/span> children. We also held an afternoon for new employees, worked in a woodshed, held a community event discussing gender equality and the role of women in business, politics and higher education, and to meet the needs of staff and students to rest, practice mindfulness techniques or pray, we set up prayer, silence and meditation room. You <\/span>won’t<\/span> be able to list everything…<\/span>” <\/span>– S. Jurait\u0117 names the new initiatives and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

She points out that the goal of organisational <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> is a sustainable, constantly supported and consciously strengthened positive state of employees. Objective factors include working conditions, financial security, health and development opportunities. Meanwhile, subjective <\/span>well-being<\/span> factors pose more challenges <\/span>and are<\/span> perceived <\/span>very<\/span> individually, such as psychological safety, happiness, fulfilment, sense of esteem, positive interpersonal relationships, employment of personal qualities in daily activities, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Labour market analysts and HR specialists increasingly agree that there is an indisputable link between the <\/span>wellbeing<\/span> of employees and the success of the organisation<\/span>, <\/span>therefore<\/span> the aim is to create and foster an environment where the health and <\/span>well-being<\/span> of employees are considered inseparable from the goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018N<\/span>ot only the conducted studies confirm that a consistent focus on strengthening the organisational culture helps not only to improve the performance of <\/span>employees,<\/span> but also promotes innovation and better adaptation to changes, especially in the academic environment, so we will continue to look for ways and means that increase the feeling of satisfaction with the working environment, contributing to better <\/span>employees’<\/span> wellbeing<\/span> and better work results,<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>says Welfare Manager S. Jurait\u0117.<\/span><\/p>\n
