On 9 December, the Food Technology Department of the Faculty of Technologies of Kaunas University of Applied Sciences, together with the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Food Science of the Valahia University of Targoviste in Romania, organizes the international competition “Food Technologist 2021”, which has become a tradition. For the sixth time, students of Lithuania and foreign higher education institutions are invited to participate in the competition, having chosen study programmes in the fields of food technology and catering studies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the world, the competition will be organized remotely.

Organized for years, the event brings together young professionals who want to test themselves by implementing the prepared theoretical and practical tasks. The skills available to students, experiments carried out, originality, and ambition in presenting food innovations fascinate not only the competition commission but also the general public. The aim of the competition is to promote the creativity and autonomy of students and to develop their professional skills in the fields of gastronomy, food technology, and safety, sustainable production. This year’s competition “Food Technologist 2021” is a little different than usual – it will consist of one stage, during which student teams will have to reveal their professional, or rather theoretical, knowledge.

Students taking part in the remote competition will take a test consisting of 25 questions related to microbiology, food technology, food safety and quality, mathematics, sustainable manufacturing, in English. One team of students, consisting of 3, will take one test together. The competition test will be available on 9 December at the desired time (from 8:00 to 17:00), but there will be a time limit (60 minutes) for the submission of replies. The best performing student teams will be presented with congratulations letters, prizes set up by the organizers and sponsors of the competition.

Student teams wishing to participate in the competition of “Food Technologist 2021” are invited to register. Registration will be open until 6 December.
