The warm season is forecasted not only by the tweets of the birds but also by the variety of different sport events. In the very beginning of May Kaunas Municipality presented (U16) Women’s European Championship Division A, which will take place in Kaunas August 17-25. The championship will be advertised by a logo that was created by an “Erasmus+” exchange student Irem Karaoglu from Turkey who is currently studying in Kauno Kolegija/UAS.

There were more than 45 works presented to the competition for the best logo of Women’s European Championship. All the works were created by the students of the Department of Design of J. Vienožinskis Faculty of Arts. The logo was elected by basketball fans in the survey that was carried out in www.kaunodiena.lt, which is the official partner of the Championship. The logo that received the highest number of votes was Irem Karoglu’s (Istanbul Aydin University) sketch.

The logo of (U16) Women’s European Championship symbolizes the herald of Lithuanian identity. The student decided to combine both Lithuanian flag and the landscape of a well-known sight of the temporary capital of Lithuania – Kaunas. The logo that represents an active sport is very dynamic as well.

I. Karaoglu says that she didn’t expect to win: “I am very happy and excited to be nominated as the best, though I didn’t expect to win. I was trying to depict Lithuania, Kaunas, femininity, youth in my logo, and I think, I did it”. The student says she enjoys experimenting with colors “I was inspired by the old town of Kaunas. To my mind, it is the real face of Kaunas and that is why I tried to depict it in my logo”
